Get Out: Things to Do This Weekend

Enjoy this spring weekend by running a road race, going on a bike ride, listening to live music, watching the Kentucky Derby and celebrating Mother's Day.

Where/When: 417 Pilgrim Mill Rd, Cumming, Saturday May 7, 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Why Go: Every spring, riders from all across North Georgia participate in one of the most exciting rides of the season through the beautiful North Georgia Mountains. With routes of 25, 44, 75, and 100 miles, there is a challenge for all riders - young & older, novice to expert. Enjoy a great day of riding, friendly competition, great food, raffle prizes and more, while help supporting the youth of Cumming and Forsyth County.

Where/When: 410 Peachtree Pkwy, Cumming, (The Avenue Forsyth), Saturday May 7, 7 a.m.

Why Go: Help raise funds to help fight ALS, Lou Gehrig’s disease by participating in this great run. Funds will benefit the Emory ALS Center. Awards will be presented to the top three by gender and age groups. Great post race food, door prizes and t-shirts.

Price: 5K: $20 preregistration, $25 on race day; Fun Run: $5 preregistration, $10 on race day

Where/When: , 13450 Cogburn Rd, Alpharetta, Saturday May 7

Why Go: Mothers, daughters, granddaughters, aunts, nieces, and other special ladies are invited to attend this luncheon. Co-sponsored by Alpharetta Recreation and Parks Department and Alpharetta Golden Age Club, everyone is asked to bring a covered dish luncheon to share. Special keepsakes will be given to and the program requires pre-registration of all participants.

Price: Free!

Where/When: , 4100 Old Alabama Rd, Alpharetta, Saturday May 7, 4:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Why Go: This unique event is creatively structured around The Kentucky Derby, the annual thoroughbred horse race held at Churchill Downs. The 137th Derby will be the focal point of the day with “horse voting” booths, an extensive silent auction, authentic Derby-style food and beverages, entertainment and large screen televisions to view “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports.” Net proceeds from this year’s event will benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Price: $75

Where/When: 575 Riverside Rd, Roswell, Saturday May 7, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Why Go: An outdoor summer concert series at Riverside Park. Food is available for purchase at the concession stand or you may bring your own. Blankets and chairs are welcome and seating is on a first come, first served basis.  In case of inclement weather, the concert will be cancelled. Saturday's band is ZydeFunk.

Where/When: , 950 Forest St, Roswell, Sunday May 8, 3 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Why Go: The AWS will take you on a transcendent journey of cityscapes and skylines through the music of celebrated wind band composers Holst, de Meij, Gould, Whitacre, Goldman, and Glenn Miller!
