Lambert High JV Cheerleaders Give Back

Cheerleaders raise $1,000 for the Northside Hospital Breast Care Program.

The Longhorns junior varsity (JV) football cheerleaders recently presented Northside Hospital’s Breast Care Program with a check to help further education, treatment and research for the hospital’s breast cancer patients. The money was raised during the school’s first-ever breast cancer awareness campaign and "Pink Out" football game, held in October 2011.

"Needless to say, I am incredibly proud of these girls and their accomplishments," said Ashley Laury, the school's varsity sideline cheerleading coach. "As a result of their efforts, they raised $1,000 for the Northside Hospital Breast Care Program."

Each year, the JV cheerleaders participate in various community service projects. In 2011, one of those projects was to create a "Pink Out" game to support breast cancer research and recovery, in honor of those members of the Lambert family who had successfully beaten breast cancer or lost their battles before a cure could be found. The game was held Oct. 13, 2011 against the Johns Creek Gladiators. The girls designed a special T-shirt, which they sold during their lunch breaks and in the community, to help promote the game and raise money for their cause. One of the incredibly talented young ladies also designed a cupcake recipe and sold her treats at the game to raise additional money. All proceeds went to Northside’s Breast Care Program.

"We wanted to support Northside because of its Forsyth campus and the support it gives to our community locally," said Laury. "We wanted the money to stay in Forsyth and help anyone struggling with breast cancer here at home."

Northside Hospital has been a Partner In Education (PIE) with Lambert High School since 2009. This is not the first time that Lambert students have supported cancer patients at Northside. Students also have volunteered at the hospital's annual Christmas tree lighting, which benefits the Northside Hospital Cancer Institute, and sold tree ornaments to raise money for the event.

"Northside Hospital is honored to work with such an amazing group of students," said Freda Hardage, director of the Northside Hospital Foundation and Northside’s PIE liaison with Lambert High School. "It’s through the generosity of our community partners that we are able to provide the high quality services that we do; what a wonderful donation."
