Letter to the Editor: Forsyth Special Needs School Bus Drivers Pay Tribute

Cumming Patch,

I am a Special Needs Bus Driver with Forsyth County Schools and today [Thursday, Jan. 24] we honored a special man who lost his battle with cancer on Monday.

Lanier Pruitt was the Director of Transportation for Special Needs for the school system. At his funeral today [Thursday, Jan. 24] we paid tribute to him and his family by showing our love as his drivers led the funeral procession with about 30 Special Needs School buses in his honor. His family had no clue we were going to honor him in this way. Lanier was a very Godly man and loved the children in our school system.

Just thought you could share a photo or two because I know you probably have Cumming Patch FB friends whose children receive transportation services and know Lanier. As I drove my bus in this today [Thursday, Jan. 24] I was just in awe of the motorist who exited their cars and got their phones out and started filming. We started the procession and McDonald & Son Funeral Home and went to Highway 20 to the Cherokee line. Every bus in the line rode with our AMBER lights flashing the whole time until we got to the Cherokee County line. We then lined both sides of the street and opened our doors for our RED flashing lights to activate and the family rode through our buses for Lanier's final send off.
