Light the Night Fundraiser, Huge Success

Nearly 2000 walkers gathered at the Cumming Fairgrounds Saturday raising more than $200,000 for LLS.

The second annual North Metro Light The Night Walk (LTN), a fundraising event for the Georgia Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), was a huge success.

Nearly 2000 walkers, making up about 85 teams of families, friends, and co-workers, along with local and national corporations, gathered at the Cumming Fairgrounds Saturday to give back to the community. The goal was to raise more than $200,000 for LLS, but that amount was surpassed.

"We raised $283,000," said Tracy Manning, Senior Campaign Manager of the Georgia Chapter.

One of the local teams led by John and Torri Westmoreland also did very well.

"The Stick It 2 Cancer & Friends team raised $106,000 - AMAZING," stated Manning in an e-mail to Cumming Patch.

Walkers proudly carried illuminated balloons - white for survivors, red for supporters and gold in memory of loved ones lost to cancer. It's a community of care with the goal of bringing help and hope to people battling blood cancers.

"The amount of support the Forsyth County community has shown The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is overwhelming," said Tiffany Dollar, Senior Campaign Manager for LLS and lead manager for the North Metro Walk.

"Light The Night is one of the largest non-profit events in North Georgia, and it is all because of the support of the residents, businesses and government. We are thankful for all that you are doing to cure blood cancer and in bringing awareness to the community about The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  Forsyth County is helping lead the fight against cancer."
