Northside Hospital-Forsyth Receives Donation from Baseball Tournament

A donation of more than $10,000 buys equipment for the hospital's women's center.

The Forsyth County Slugfest Tournament Committee recently presented more than $10,000 to .

The group raised the money through its annual baseball tournament, the Forsyth County Slugfest Tournament, held each March.

"At the Slugfest, we've always liked to think that our donations were going to good causes, but it was really amazing to visit Northside and see specifically what our efforts earned for the community," said the committee's treasurer Brian Gould.

Hospital officials said the donation was used to purchase an interactive newborn simulator, SimNewB, which will help the more than 182 nurses and techs in Northside’s Women’s Center to maintain their neonatal resuscitation skills, refine critical-thinking skills and ultimately help improve neonatal outcomes during critical cases.

"Our Women’s Center at Northside Hospital-Forsyth has grown by leaps and bounds in the three years since it has been open and we are excited about all of the opportunities to expand the state-of-the-art maternity care to our patients," said Lynn Jackson, hospital administrator. "We are so grateful to the Forsyth County Slugfest for their generous gift and their commitment to the Forsyth community."

In the last five years, the group has raised more than $110,000 for several charities, including the Cumming Forsyth County Miracle League.

Despite the cancellation of some of the weekend’s events due to rain, the 2011 tournament attracted 246 baseball teams and raised more than $23,000.

"Who knows what we can do if the weather is awesome for the 2012 tournament," said Gould.
