Polo Golf and Country Club Pays Tribute to Beloved Golf Instructor

The Polo Fields is hosting a fundraiser and birthday celebration for John David Keith who is battling ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.

John David Keith's life changed in 2008 after a series of unexplained accidents and stumbles on the golf course led to a devastating diagnosis of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. ALS is a progressive degenerative disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal column. The disease causes the brain to completely lose its ability to initiate and control muscle function, leading to complete paralysis.

John David Keith, always known in high school as a tough guy with a gentleman's heart is looking forward to celebrating his 44th birthday despite the devastation of his heartbreaking journey through ALS.

On Monday, Aug. 29, at 8 a.m., all golfers, friends and the general public are invited to put their skills to the test for a great cause at the Polo Fields Golf and Country Club. Not only is Monday John David's birthday, it is also a day on which the community can gather together to help him and his mother get some relief from the enormity of the financial responsibilities ALS is known to incur.

The format of tournament is a four-person scramble, and the cost to participate is $90 per player—which includes green fees, cart, and range balls. At 2 p.m., John David and his mother will make a brief appearance at the club thanks to the donation of services from Advanced Ambulance Services, Inc.

Come to play or just join in the celebration with the community as we give back to the man who gave so much on the golf course, instructing our students with patience, persistence and a heart of gold.
