UPDATE: 7-26-13, 12:05 p.m.

Authorities in Forsyth County confirm a fox that bit two women and came in contact with a third woman Monday was rabid, tests revealed.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office reports the Animal Control Unit and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources responded to an area off Pilgrim Mill Road (Exit 16 off GA 400) after hearing about a fox acting suspiciously.

Sandra Odom, 23, one of the women who was bit, told 11 Alive News that the fox approached her without hesitation.

"Kinda walked up to me and literally like was rubbing on me, all around me, walking around me like a cat would," she said.

Odom said the fox bit her after it became startled by a young boy who tried to get closer to the fox.

A second woman, Donna Toedtman, 58, was also bit by the fox while in her yard. Both women received treatment at Northside Hospital-Forsyth and were released.

The third woman, Brennie Hall, 65, told a FCSO deputy that her partially blind poodle had the fox cornered in the back yard. She said she kicked at the fox as it was leaving the area, but that it did not bite her or her dog, the incident report stated.

The fox was eventually located and euthanized.

If you suspect an animal of being rabid, contact the Animal Control Unit at 770-781-2138 or call 911 immediately. Also, make sure your pets are up-to-date on their vaccinations.

This is the third case of rabies reported this year in Forsyth County.
