Relay for Life Begins Friday at Cumming Fairgrounds

Forsyth residents ready to annual event that honors cancer victims and survivors and helps raise cancer awareness and money for a cure.

The culmination of months of fund raising, 2014's Forsyth County Relay for Life, an event during which participants will honor cancer victims and survivors and raise awareness and money for a cure, is set for May 2-3, at the Cumming Fairgrounds.Β 

Fifty-six local teams, with a total of 673 participants, have already raised $174,000, according to the American Cancer Society's event website. They include teams of volunteers from local groups and organizations, schools, churches and businesses.

Ken Hagler, the associate minister at Cumming First United Methodist Church, is the 2014 honorary chairman of the event, which begins at 6 p.m. Friday and runs through 6 a.m. Saturday. Read more about Hagler’s fight against cancer here.
