Section of Big Creek Scheduled To Reopen Soon

The county has been replacing and enhancing a section of the boardwalk.

A section of the Big Creek Greenway from McFarland Parkway to Union Hill Road is still closed as repairs continue for this portion of the greenway, but will reopen this month. The work is being handled by Reliant Construction and county staff.

"The repair work entails replacing and enhancing the boardwalk in this section. Weather permitting, we hope to have the repairs completed and be able to re-open this section by mid to late May," said Jodi Gardner, Director of Communications for Forsyth County, in an e-mail.

  • Fowler Park near the skate park

Parking is available at both locations, but parking is not allowed along Carolene Way, the entrance to Fowler Park.

Just last week another section of Big Creek was temporarily closed due to a tree that fell across a portion of the trail. According to Gardner, the impacted area was very small, but the approximately 1-mile section was closed to allow for the repairs to be made. It has since reopened.
