Sweep the Lake Set for Saturday

Volunteers are needed for this weekend's 24th annual 'Shore Sweep' at Lake Lanier.

The 24th annual Shore Sweep, co-hosted by Keep Forsyth County Beautiful and the Lake Lanier Association (LLA), takes place on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Forsyth County volunteers helping out this weekend are asked pick up trash bags and a shoreline area assignment for trash collection at the following participating marinas:

  • Bald Ridge
  • Habersham
  • Port Royale

In addition to the day-of-event locations, including the marinas, Lake Lanier Islands (Gwinnett County), Clarks Bridge (Hall County), and War Hill Park (Dawson County), there are also nine-advance drop off locations around the lake.

You are encouraged to go ahead and bring bagged trash or large items and leave them at one of these locations, now open through Friday evening, Sept. 28. LLA has volunteers with boats scheduled to pick up at all these locations on Saturday morning for removal.

If you are not available to help with Shore Sweep this weekend, bringing items to the advance locations this week is a great way to contribute to this event.

Keep in mind the advance locations are only accepting trash while the Shore Sweep Signs are in place.

If you bring trash to any of the advance locations listed below, please look for the signs posted and leave the debris close to the signs.

They include:

  1. Map coordinate J-12, buoy marker 1SM, beach at Shady Grove Park
  2. Map coordinate H-7, Beaver Ruin Road shoreline area
  3. Map coordinate N-4, Lanier Harbor Marina
  4. Map coordinate N-9, buoy 14, Gaines Ferry Islands
  5. Map coordinate L-18, buoy 33, Keith’s Bridge Island
  6. Map coordinate M-24, Old Dawsonville Highway road bed near DNR regional office and Martin Docks
  7. Map coordinate M-28, buoy 2WC, unnamed island
  8. Map coordinate D-21, buoy 21C, Nix Island
  9. Map coordinate B-23, buoy 25C, Toto Creek boat launch

The lake map coordinates are from the Atlantic Mapping Recreation and Fishing Guide for Lake Lanier.

Advance registration for Shore Sweep is not required, but it does help in scheduling shoreline coverage. If you would like to notify LLA of your plans to participate, please send an e-mail to lakeinfo@lakelanier.org and visit the Lake Lanier website for more information.

I was going to ask the same thing about the jobs. I really liked the job search engine that wasRead More included before the format change. The link you provided is okay, but I liked being able to see what's available in other places and being able to narrow the search as well. You said "you can always find it under "Business"". Where? I don't see it. To be honest, I don't really care for the new website layout. I had only recently found Cumming Patch and was really enjoying it. I'm not sure I'll continue visiting. The new layout is not easy to navigate. The dropdowns that used to be in the menu were really nice so that you could go directly to what you were looking for.
