Taste of Forsyth Returns Saturday

The third annual food festival will be held at the Cumming Fairgrounds this Saturday, March 30.

Get ready to loosen your belt as your waistline may expand just a bit! The 2013 Taste of Forsyth returns to the Cumming Fairgrounds on Saturday, March 30, for the third year in a row.

The tasty food festival kicks off at 11 a.m. and will go strong until 6 p.m.

Sample delicious food from more than 25 local restaurants including, Castleberry Ale House (2012 winner for best appetizer), Mia Italiano Ristorante (2012 winner for best food presentation), The Melting Pot, Bruster’s Real Ice Cream, Foster House, Rio Balsas (2012 winner for best entree) and many more.

In the mix there will be a few new restaurants, according Tracy Helms, event coordinator.

"McAlister’s Deli, Panera Bread [new Cumming restaurant opening this spring], Mellow Mushroom and Fox's Pizza," he said.

Prices will range from $1 to $4 to taste a wide variety of food from BBQ ribs and Mexican fare, to delicious desserts like ice cream and deep fried brownies.

At least 12,000 patrons are expected to show up for this year's festival, weather permitting (a 30 percent chance of rain is predicted for Saturday).

In addition to all the food, there will be a huge Easter Egg Hunt with more than 25,000 eggs spread across the lawn, said Helms. Below are the designated times for the specific age group. Parents and their children are encouraged to get there early, as the eggs will not last long.

The schedule is as follows:

  • 11:30 a.m. – Children 3-years-old and under
  • 12:30 p.m. – Children 4- to 7-years-old
  • 1:30 p.m. – Children 8- to 10-years-old                                              

Children will also enjoy a wide variety of activities from a quad bungee, rock wall, inflatable slides, bounces, a trackless train and much more. Also on display, two fire trucks, a bucket truck, a monster truck, a police cruiser, a dump truck, the National Guard Humvee and personnel transporter, a giant crane and SWAT vehicles.

The 2013 Taste of Forsyth will feature entertainment by the fresh acoustic sounds of Scott Thompson of Peachtree Station and the talents of Peter Hart and his magical puppet shows to delight kids young and old.

Admission and parking to Saturday's event is free, but dogs and alcohol are not allowed.
