Taste of Forsyth Returns This Weekend

The second annual food festival will be held at the Cumming Fairgrounds on Saturday and features several new events.

Taste of Forsyth returns to the this Saturday from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. The food festival is an opportunity to sample delectable items from some of Forsyth County's favorite restaurants.

At least 25 restaurants will be participating in this year's event, according to Tracy Helms, event coordinator.

All food items are reasonable priced from $1 to $4 allowing festival goers to sample different types of food, beverages, ice cream, desserts and much more all in one spot.

For many years Taste of Forsyth was organized and hosted by Family Haven, a domestic violence shelter, as a fundraiser.

"For whatever reason they decided not to do it anymore so the event sat dormant for a couple of years," Helms said.

But in 2011 the city of Cumming revitalized the event. Now in its second year organizers have added a few new items to the menu, including three egg hunts for different age groups with more than 25,000 eggs. The times are as follows:

  • 11:30 a.m. – children 3 and under
  • 12:30p.m. – Children 4 to 7-years-old
  • 1:30p.m. – Children 8 to 10-years-old

Also new this year – live music provided by Scott Thompson of Peachtree Station.

Returning again for the second annual event will be Peter Hart and his 'Atlanta Puppet Show,' children's activities including, a quad bungee, a Rockwall, inflatable slides, bounces, a trackless train and much more. Kids and adults can also get up front and personal with two fire trucks, a police cruiser, a monster truck and other vehicles from several law enforcement agencies in the county and city.

Helms said be sure to bring cash, as that is the only form of payment accepted by the restaurants. And if you forget your money or run out, there will be several ATMs on-site.

Admission and parking to Saturday's event is free. Dogs and alcohol are not allowed at the event.
