'Telling The Story' of Forsyth County's Big Creek

New art displays designed to 'tell the story' of the Big Creek.

The next time you are on the Big Creek Greenway in Forsyth County you may notice three new art displays designed to 'tell the story' of the Big Creek.

The art displays include a mixed media mural, titled Big Creek Legacy, created by Bryan White and two bronze sculptures created by Gregory Johnson.

Visitor's to the Greenway can find the mural and one of the bronze sculptures, titled Gone Fishing, at the Bethelview Road trail head on and beside the exterior restroom walls. The second sculpture, titled Cabin Fever is located beside the trail head entrance and skate park at Fowler Park.

“This project is the first of its kind in Georgia,” said Outdoor Program Manager Matthew Pate in a statement.

The $10,000 grant, used to fund the artwork, was given to the Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Department from the Forsyth County Arts Alliance.

The county is hopeful the new artwork will educate the thousands of people that visit and use the Big Creek Greenway everyday.

“With this artistic, immersive and creative approach to environmental education, the Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Department hopes to inspire people to adopt an ethic of individual stewardship to have a better understanding of local natural treasures.”

The Big Creek Greenway opened in 2009 and since that short time has quickly become one of Forsyth County’s most popular recreational offerings spanning approximately 6.8 miles. Plan are in progress for the future extension of the trail.
