Whiz Kid: Jacob Grinstead, Pitcher Perfect

With a strike-out streak that won't quit, Jacob Grinstead knows a thing or two about pitching perfectly.

He's 12-years-old and he's on a roll at the pitcher's mound. Jacob has been playing baseball for seven years and has continually led his team in strike-outs every year, but this season, he's taking it to the next level.

Accomplishments:

Jacob Grinstead's strike-out streak has zipped through 18 batters with no hits and no walks. Of course, it didn't just happen overnight. Jacob has been building his reputation on the mound in increments. In seasons past, it all started when he pitched a one one-hitter, then came the no-hitter, and this year, he's pitched a perfect game. However, Jacob will be the first one to tell you it's all the result of hard work, great coaches and teammates and an excellent catcher named Brandon.

Jacob is also very active in his local church. He faithfully invites people of all ages to attend his church and earlier this year, he spoke to an assembly of at least 60-70 young people on the subject, “Not Ashamed to be a Christian."

Baseball is Jacob's sport of choice, but he's also been named twice as the MVP on his football team and he won the shootout competition in basketball for the Georgia Youth Fellowship where he competed against upperclassmen and even seniors. His athletic prowess and versatility in a variety of sports make him a valuable asset to just about any team he decides to join, but above all, Jacob puts his love for God at the top of his list.

Keys to Success:

"Instead of feeling happy for myself when I pitched the perfect game, I felt more humbled and thankful that God helped me. My goal is always to be the best that I can be and what helps me achieve this is hard work and prayer," says Jacob who adds that his favorite subjects of study are history and bible study.

Powered by his faith and a pitching arm full of potential, Jacob Grinstead is on his way to making his personal field of dreams come true.
