Whiz-Kid of The Week: Haley Jones, Aiming High and Hitting Her Target

Heading for the Air Force Academy is a dream for many students, but for Haley Jones it's a reality she made happen all by herself.

Meet this week's Cumming Patch Whiz Kid.

Accomplishment

The sky is the limit for Haley Jones. The West Forsyth High School senior accepted an early appointment to the United States Air Force Academy where she plans to become an officer in the US Air Force and fly an A-10.

Jones was also presented with two other options: early acceptance to GA Tech and Auburn University where she was offered (without applying) a four year scholarship covering all miscellaneous fees and 2/3 of her tuition. "Mainly, I found what I wanted to do in life early, which is to become an officer in the US Air Force and hopefully fly the A-10. USAFA has motivated me every step of the way," says Jones who is also a member of the National Honor Society.

Key To Success

Haley says she believes that every challenge happens for a reason. "My challenge was that I moved away from home (Lawrenceville) to live with family friends in Cumming so I could go to West Forsyth High School. It has been difficult being away from home and adapting to someone else's home, but it has taught me how to be responsible for myself and my actions, how to motivate myself, and how to manage my independence," says Jones. She also swims on the varsity team for West Forsyth High School and finds the sport her greatest relief from a demanding academic schedule.

Haley's motto is, "Anyone can do anything once!" It has helped her push herself athletically, academically, and every other way too.

With a heart of gold and boundless determination, it's good to know this is taking her American dream to one of the nation's most highly respected institutes of higher education.
