During the 84th Academy Awards event a silent film won Best Picture. The Artist, a melodramatic love story set at the end of the silent film era, also took home the honors of Best Director, Best Costume Design, Best Original Score and Jean Dujardin won for Best Actor.
Meryl Streep won Best Actress for "The Iron Lady." This is her second Oscar statue even though she has been nominated 16 times.
Octavia Spencer won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for “The Help” and Christopher Plummer takes home the golden statute for Best Supporting Actor for “Beginners."
