The Envelope, Please: 2013 Oscar Nominations Announced

'Lincoln' comes up big. Share your predictions.

Already, some excitement in 2013. The nominations for the 85th Academy Awards were released Thursday (January 10) in Los Angeles. Not surprisingly, "Lincoln," directed by Steven Spielberg, came up big with 12 nominations, including best picture.

According to the Los Angeles Times, “Lincoln,” “Zero Dark Thirty,” “Argo” and “Les Miserables” earned multiple Oscar nominations. The nine best film nominees are: “Lincoln,” “Zero Dark Thirty,” “Argo,” “Les Miserables,” “Life of Pi,” “Silver Linings Playbook,” “Amour,” “Django Unchained” and “Beasts of the Southern Wild.”

A best director award for Spielberg would be his third. He previously won for "Schindler's List" and "Saving Private Ryan."

The Huffington Post notes, "Lincoln," which chronicles part of the life of the 16th president, stars best-actor contender Daniel Day-Lewis, supporting-actress nominee Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln, and supporting-actor prospect Tommy Lee Jones as abolitionist Thaddeus Stevens.
