Forsyth Schools Release Redistricting First Draft

Parents and stakeholders are asked to provide input on the proposed plan.

Forsyth Schools officials today released a first draft of a plan to redistrict, a move aimed at relieving overcrowding and populate existing schools, according to the system's website

The biggest changes in the plan to redraw the system's lines could come for some students at Brookwood and Sharon elementary schools, portions of which could feed to different middle and high schools, according to a summary of the proposal, above.

The redistricting would mostly affect schools in the southern portion of Forsyth County, including Sharon, Settles Bridge, Daves Creek, Midway, Big Creek, Brookwood, Haw Creek and Johns Creek elementary schools.

Daves Creek, Shiloh Point and Big Creek would see fewer students, while enrollment numbers at Brookwood, Haw Creek and Sharon would rise.

Lakeside and South Forsyth middle schools also would see a boost in enrollment to relieve overcrowding at Riverwatch. Officials don't intent to redistrict the high schools, "however lines will be reviewed/considered based on elementary and middle school changes," according to the website.

Parents and students can have their say by filling out an online survey.
