Business Spotlight: Sidney's Pizza

The Vickery Village pizzeria has new look and new owners.

Five months ago, friends Lori Marshall and Kelly Burns decided to take on a “small business venture.”

“Our families have been long-time customers of Sidney’s Pizza (in Vickery Village) and we heard it was for sale, so we got together and jumped on the opportunity,” said Marshall, a six-year resident of Cumming. “It’s been a great experience so far.”

Marshall and Burns became the new owners of Sidney’s Pizza Parlor in September 2010. They got acquainted because both have three boys that have played sports together in Forsyth County over the last three years.

Marshall and Burns sat down with Cumming Patch to discuss their recent entrepreneurial endeavor.

Q. What was the driving factor that made you want to purchase Sidney’s Pizza?

A. “Our boys have played sports together, our husbands have coached together and we have been coming to Sidney’s for a long time. We also love the sense of community that Vickery Village has to offer and we thought we could provide a business that would be conducive to team parties and family get-togethers. This neighborhood has that real family feel.”

 Q. Vickery Village has had some significant turnover since the development was built, is it intimidating to see so many businesses come and go?

A. “With the economy being what it is, you are seeing what is indicative of anywhere in Forsyth County. Nonetheless, the community is very supportive and embraces. Vickery Village will catch its second wind. We are starting to see some new stores come in and luckily for us, our client base has stayed and been real loyal."

Q. What sets Sidney’s apart from some of the other pizzerias in Cumming?

A. “Our food and our service. We have great pizza, great food and many different options for parents and adults. Plus, we are currently in the process of expanding. We are doubling our dine-in seating area and adding another oven. This will possibly allow us to offer more menu items and give us the opportunity to do some catering.”
