Chepe's Mexican Grill in Cumming Closes Following 51 Health, Safety Inspection Score

An inspector noted roach activity near near the grill and dead roaches near the mop sink, after receiving a complaint about roaches at the eatery.

Chepe's Mexican Grill in Cumming closed five days after it scored a U in a December restaurant inspection.

Forsyth County Planning and Development Director Tom Brown confirmed the 5465 Bethelview Road, Suite 560, restaurant shut its doors Dec. 15 and by email, advised the county of the closing and that it would not be applying for a 2014 alcohol license.

The Forsyth County Environmental Health department conducted Dec. 10 a routine inspection of the eatery, finding it was out of compliance with a number of food health and safety rules. 

In addition to hand washing and food temperature and storage problems, the inspector noted standing water throughout the kitchen and walk-in cooler, roach activity near near the grill and dead roaches near the mop sink. The department had received a complaint about roach activity, according to the inspection report, above.

Chepe's in Cumming scored a 51 on its latest inspection. In its previous inspections, it had scored a 95 on April 15 and a 96 in October 2012.

The restaurant earlier in 2013 had closed its south Forsyth location on Mathis Airport Road near Old Atlanta, according to rootsinalpharetta.com. Its Johns Creek location also is apparently closed, as all phone numbers associated with Chepe's are no longer in service and its website is no longer available.

Attempts by Patch to contact a Chepe's representative have been unsuccessful.
