More Doing: Home Depot Hiring 80,000 Workers Nationally

Georgia-based Home Depot has begun hiring 80,000 seasonal workers nationally, more than 4,000 of them in Georgia, as it preps for the busiest time of year: Spring.

Home Depot spokesman Stephen Holmes said this week the company plans to hire 10,000 more seasonal workers than last year to handle spring sales. Seasonal jobs typically last about 120 days, but Home Depot keeps about half of those workers on permanently, reports Georgia Public Broadcasting.

“Spring for us is our Christmas,” Holmes said. “A lot of people think of traditional retailers and how they do seasonal hiring in the fall and the winter. For us, it’s spring when the weather gets warm and our sales go up.”

The company’s website also has a portal just for former military personnel to search for jobs. Once a service member enters their branch of service, rank and area of specialty, the Home Depot site brings up a list of jobs that might suit the applicant.

“Takes the guesswork out of it for them,” Holmes says.
