Rosati's to Bring Chicago-Style Pizza to Cumming

Cumming's Rosati's Pizza and Sports Pub will be the first of the franchise's restaurants in Georgia.

A new pizzeria opening up in Cumming this fall will be the first Chicago-style pizza joint in the area, its owner says.

Rosati’s Pizza and Sports Pub
is slated to open in the former Buckhead Pizza Company building in Brannon Crossing on Peachtree Parkway in mid-to-late-September, following a building remodel. Plans are to hire 30 full-time and part-time employees.

The unique Chicago-style pizzeria will feature a Chicago-themed sports bar, Chicago-style hot dogs and other Italian dishes. According to its website, Rosati's locations serves Chicago-style deep-dish, pan, thin-crust, double-dough pizzas, a variety of pastas, sandwiches, salads and catering.

“We were used to Chicago pizza, and there wasn’t anything in Cumming that had Chicago pizza,” said owner Matt Smith, a native of the northern Indiana/Chicago area who has lived in Cumming for the last five years. “We’re very much into the sports and (things) in the Forsyth area, so we thought this would be a good chance to capitalize on that.”

The restaurant also will offer special events, such as trivia nights.

“Buckhead Pizza did have the trivia night, and we’re going to keep that the same,” Smith said.

Ferdinand Rosati, an Italian entrepreneur, opened the first restaurant in the early 1900s on the famous Taylor Street in Chicago. A second location opened in 1927.

This will be the first Rosati’s in Georgia. The restaurant chain has 164 other locations in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Texas and Wisconsin.

Smith said he’s “extremely excited” about opening the chain’s first Georgia restaurant.

“The whole family’s excited,” he said. “I think it will be good. It will be a family-oriented pizzeria with the sports theme. With us having five kids, I think we’ve got that in mind. I think it will be a pretty big hit.”
