Sapphire's Future - A Horse's Journey

When you hear good news, when you see improvement, it's the positive energy of the community of animal lovers that are sending good thoughts and prayers – all working to make it all happen.

Sapphire, a beautiful black mare, missing an eye, has been with us since April 27, 2009. She was in such bad shape, one of the worst we had ever seen. Dr. Duval said not to pull her coggins because "this one may not make it."

Please read her story here. http://dailynewsatsavethehorses.blogspot.com/2012/06/sapphires-future.html

Update (Thursday, June 28)

Sapphire has improved since yesterday [Wednesday]. The doctors are puzzled but very happy. Still no answers but she is eating and no spiked fevers. We need to make a decision soon if she continues to improve. All those thoughts and prayers are working. The wish is she can stay until July 9, they will drain her chest and abdomen of the nasty fluids and keep her on IV antibiotics and keep flushing out the areas.

The problem is the bill is $2000. Now if she is better before the weekend, to keep her do what needs to be done, will raise the price to $4000.

We are going to try and raise the money quickly. We will have a few events but it won't be all raised by July 9 because I have my once a year family vacation July 1 through the 8. I have to go visit my 89-year-old Auntie whom I love dearly. My whole family, kids and grandkids all go every year. Volunteers will be taking care of everything at the barn.

If you can have a garage sale, bake sale, car wash or anything to help – please, please do it – it all adds up. Every penny. I am not a beggar at all. I am a caregiver. Everyone reading this is part of her group of angels who are helping in some way. I told Dr. Leah that Sapphire has so many people who love her and are cheering for her.

"I know, I am one of them," she said.

If Sapphire does not improve and stay in a good direction, we may have to consider letting her go to Heaven's Rainbow Bridge, but that isn't a thought! That is a journey we are not ready to send her on.
