Dinsmore Team: Member Introduction

I hope by now that you’re getting a sense of the talent and resources that we have available to the Dinsmore “Team”.    To that effect, I’d like to introduce you to yet another member: Bridget Christian of the Bridget Christian Law Group, LLC.  Bridget has specialized in Estate Planning law for over 15 years and has recently opened her own practice in the Alpharetta area.

Whether you have just have purchased a home or are considering a move, it’s a very important financial decision; adding such a valuable asset to your portfolio requires estate planning for future protection. A good Estate Plan will assist in the preservation of your assets, protect them from estate taxes and creditors, and ensure your assets are passed to your designated beneficiaries.

I know that Bridget has the experience to assist you in the preparation of the necessary legal documents required to protect your assets.

I am the founding partner of the Bridget Christian Law Group, LLC which is a local law firm serving families and businesses in the North Fulton, Forsyth, Cherokee, Cobb and Gwinnett counties. I am known for my ability to navigate complex and contentious estate issues and for bringing rival family factions to agreement over the distribution of assets, especially where a family business or large real estate holdings are involved.

My firm specializes in Estate Planning which includes:

  • Last Will and Testament – The Last Will and Testament is an estate planning document that provides for the distribution and disposition of property and personal assets after death. A Will becomes effective upon death, therefore it can be changed at any time prior to death and should be periodically reviewed to be sure it applies to the current personal and family situation.
  • Trust – A Trust is an instrument used to manage an asset or group of assets for the benefit of a specified individual or group of individuals in a restricted manner. It is often used for the management of estate assets in order to minimize federal or state taxes, to manage assets for the benefit of a minor or an adult who may need assistance or is incapacitated.  A Trust can be irrevocable or revocable depending on its need for a particular situation.
  • Durable Power of Attorney – A Power of Attorney is a written document that grants a broad range of specific powers over your financial affairs to someone you trust. Specific provisions can establish when and how the power of attorney takes effect, the duration and manner in which it can be terminated and can describe or limit the powers granted to the agent.
  • Advanced Directive for Healthcare – An Advanced Directive for Healthcare is a written document authorizing someone you name to make health care decisions for you in the event you are unable to make those decisions for yourself. In this document, you can make decisions regarding life-sustaining treatments if you are in a condition that will result in death in a relatively short period of time.  Further, it also includes authorization for autopsy, organ/body donation and choice for disposition of remains.
  • Probate – Probate is the legal process of administering a deceased individual’s estate. The probate process includes filing a probate petition along with the Last Will and Testament, giving notice to creditors/debtors, identifying assets, paying valid claims against the estate and distributing the assets to the heirs and beneficiaries.
