A man committed suicide Monday night by jumping from the I-85 bridge in unincorporated Norcross, police say.

Around 11 p.m., a Gwinnett County Police officer saw a man sitting on the Center Way overpass above I-85 North, according to the police report.

The officer attempted to speak with the man, Lamonte A. Shaw, a 38-year-old from Peachtree Corners, but he jumped off the bridge before he could be stopped.

An Acworth teenager has died after a two-vehicle accident in Northeast Cobb late Monday evening. 

Cobb Police Spokesman Officer Michael Bowman said that Laquan Hilton, 17, of Acworth, died after sustaining injuries in a crash at the intersection of Piedmont Road and Bells Ferry Road, where Piedmont becomes Barrett Parkway.

Rigoberto Lara Hernandez of Woodstock, 34, drowned in Lake Allatoona Sunday afternoon.

Around 2 p.m. on Sunday, Cherokee Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a drowning at the Galt's Ferry Day Use area in Acworth, according to a Cherokee County Sheriff's Office news release.

were called to the home of a local teen whose mother found seemingly inappropriate text messages on his phone.

The mother told police that she doesn't know the person texting her 14-year-old son, or whether they are male or female. According to the police report, officers read text messages, which clearly indicated the boy's age and the fact the texts were sent by an adult.

The report did clarify that no sexual remarks had yet been made by the adult over a 15-hour text conversation, but it did appear to be heading in that direction.
