Cumming May See Snow on City and County Roads Tonight

Old man winter may dump another round of snow in the area.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for the City of Cumming and Forsyth County until noon Thursday according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Peachtree City.

The forecast is calling for occasional light snow with accumulations of 1 to 2 inches in north Georgia and around an inch for the Atlanta metro area.

A 90 percent chance of precipitation is expected with low temperatures dropping to around 25 to 32 degrees.

The primary hazards associated with this advisory are the potential for accumulating snow and slick spots on roads. City and county roads will become slick if snow accumulates on them especially bridges and overpasses.

"Forsyth County is monitoring the potential inclement weather and will continue to do so. In the event that roadways are impacted, the county will begin treating bridges, primary thoroughfares and critical facilities. The county has equipment and materials ready for use as needed," said Jodi Gardner, director with the Forsyth County Department of Communications in an e-mail to Cumming Patch.

The NWS reports a winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties.

"Motorists are asked to exercise caution and drive slowly," said Gardner.
