Georgia 400 Lane Closures Begin This Week for Buckhead Bridge Construction

Drivers should be aware of several lane closures on Georgia 400, underway through Thursday of this week.

Drivers will have to contend with more congested traffic along Georgia 400 this week, thanks to lane closures to facilitate the building of a pedestrian bridge in Buckhead.

Several governmental entities, including MARTA, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), State Road and Toll Authority (SRTA), Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and the City of Atlanta and the Buckhead Community Improvement District (BCID), are beginning a project to reconnect the east and west sides of the Buckhead community through a pedestrian bridge.

The project will cause lane closures through Buckhead on Georgia 400 underway through Thursday, April 12 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

When completed, the bridge will offer a convenient entrance to the Buckhead MARTA Station. Pedestrians will be able to cross between Stratford Road to Tower Place Drive over Georgia 400. MARTA began work on the project in January 2012.

This project is the result of an agreement that was reached between the partners, prior to the construction of Georgia 400, to one day restore connectivity between the east and west sides of Buckhead.

The project includes:

  • A new entrance on the north end of the existing Buckhead Station
  • Pedestrian bridge over north and southbound lanes of Georgia 400
  • An elevator/stair tower, sidewalk,Β and bridge connection on the east side of Georgia 400
  • Sidewalk access to elevated walkway from Tower Place to connect to the bridge on the west side of Georgia 400

The project is scheduled to be completed by November 2013. Visit the Marta Web site or call Customer Information at 404-848-5000 for more information.
