Chick-fil-A Executive Denies 'Concessions' - Smyrna-Vinings Patch

The Chick-fil-A controversy continues, with company President Dan Cathy speaking out on recent events that led some to believe that the company was backing off its stance on marriage.

According to the Huffington Post, on Sept. 21, Cathy issued a statement on former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee’s website denying these reports, claiming the company has made no "concessions" to gay marriage supporters.

“There continues to be erroneous implications in the media that Chick-fil-A changed our practices and priorities in order to obtain permission for a new restaurant in Chicago. That is incorrect. Chick-fil-A made no such concessions, and we remain true to who we are and who we have been," Cathy's statement said. .

Mableton Mom Accused of Starving Mentally Challenged Daughter Granted Bond - South Cobb Patch

The 35-year-old Mableton woman accused of starving her mentally challenged daughter to death has been granted bond in the amount of $75,000 by a Cobb County Magistrate Court Judge, the Marietta Daily Journal reported.

Ebony Berry’s attorney argued that she was entitled to a bond hearing because she’d been in Cobb County Jail without bond for 90 days and had yet to be indicted.

Cobb County police arrested Berry in June and charged her with first-degree child cruelty and murder after they discovered the severely malnourished body of her 16-year-old daughter Markea Blakely-Berry. .

On Sept. 18, cops met a woman at Regions Bank on Roswell Road. She said the following: She met a man online at “Christian Mingle” and has been speaking to him since June. They eventually moved their communications to Facebook and then to the Yahoo Messenger and then to the telephone. The man said his name is Jackson Hutchinson. There was never a face-to-face meeting.

The woman believed they fell in love and he wanted to marry her. During this time, he established himself as a traveling salesman and at one point, asked her to help with some suppliers from other countries.

He transferred $20,000 to her account. He instructed her to send, via Western Union, $4,500 to a separate person. She went to the Publix and obtained multiple money orders totaling $4,500 and placed the order. She then went to her bank to verify the funds and found that they were not available. She thought that was suspicious and went to the Western Union and cancelled the order. They gave her WU checks totaling the amount. She deposited those checks to her account. She has since called Jackson Hutchinson to inquire why the funds were not valid. See Sandy Springs Patch for more on this story.

Motorist Extricated After Car Goes Under Tractor-Trailer - Dacula Patch

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that a motorist was trapped in a vehicle at the scene of a Thursday morning accident on Highway 316 near Hurricane Trail Road. 

The AJC initially reported that at least one person was killed. At approximately 8:15 a.m., @AJC tweeted an update:

"Update: Motorist under tractor-trailer still alive. Firefighters trying to cut him out of car."

Gwinnett County Police public information officer Cpl. Jake Smith confirmed that information in an email to Dacula Patch.

"This accident is not a fatal at this time," Smith wrote. "It was a two vehicle accident: tractor trailer vs. passenger car.  The passenger car went under the trailer.  The driver was injured and trapped, but has since been removed and transported to the hospital." 

The accident happened shortly before 7 a.m., according to the AJC. .
