Bomb Scare in Peachtree Corners Monday Morning

Gwinnett Police were called to a business parking lot in Peachtree Corners Monday morning about a suspicious package found near a commercial van.

According to Cpl. Edwin Ritter, spokesman for Gwinnett Police, around 8:30 a.m. the Hazardous Devices Unit (HDU) was called in to investigate "a backpack left on a car at 4725 Peachtree Corners Circle."  But police found no explosives. Visit Peachtree Corners Patch for more on this story.

Murder Conviction Upheld in Violent Home Invasion Killing

A unanimous Georgia Supreme Court has upheld the 2005 murder, kidnapping and burglary convictions of Justin Brown, one of four men involved in a violent home invasion robbery and murder resulting in the death of 18-year-old J.R. Former Gwinnett County Commissioner Says Bribery Was 'Common'

Former Gwinnett County Commissioner Shirley Lasseter has said in an interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that bribery was a common practice in Gwinnett County.

Lasseter, whose district included Suwanee, is slated to enter federal prison soon after pleading guilty and being sentenced to serve 33 months in prison for accepting bribes in 2011 from an undercover FBI agent to approve a proposed development in her commission district. Bed Catches Alight While 6-Year-Old Loganville Boy Slept
- Loganville-Grayson Patch

Rayman Stanelle, of Loganville, has a lot for which to be thankful after a fire in his son’s bedroom in the early morning hours of Sunday left little damage except for a partially burnt bed and carpet. It could, he said, have been so much worse.

“I've always subscribed to the ‘butterfly effect’ that basically says every little decision, no matter how small, plays a part in how your life goes,” Stanelle said. “I think God knows your destination, but it is up to you with how you get there.”

Stanelle said he was sleeping in the bedroom with his son early Sunday when he woke to an “annoying alarm” and a bright light. Read more about this story on Loganville-Grayson Patch.
