Portion of Buford Dam Road Closed To Traffic

A $3.8 million road-widening project, among other things, is underway.

If you’ve been in the vicinity of Buford Dam Road near the busy Marketplace Boulevard intersection you’ve probably noticed some activity-taking place.

On Monday crews started working on replacing a culvert where Buford Dam Road crosses Market Place Boulevard. The Buford Dam Road Project, as it is called by the City of Cumming, will also include widening parts of the roadway, up to four lanes, and installing sidewalks.

City Administrator Gerald Blackburn said, “Portions of Buford Dam from Highway 9/20 down to Sanders Road will be under construction.”

Buford Dam Road is closed from Marketplace Boulevard to Sanders Road, that is the section of the road where the culvert will be replaced according to Blackburn.

The city hopes to get that portion of the project completed by July 4 weekend, but  completion of the entire project will go well into the fall.

In the meantime, patience and caution are suggested to motorists.

“We need people to be careful and take their time in that area because it’s going to be congested during this construction project,” added Blackburn.

The expected cost of the project is $3.8 million.
