You've probably heard the saying, "Honesty is the best policy," right? That phrase  holds true for Rick Mayker, a custodian at located in Cumming.

According to a news release, Mayker was cleaning up near the bowling lanes after a large corporate event last week when he came upon a loose diamond. He immediately alerted his manager of his discovery. Stars and Strikes Fun Center is over 50,000 square feet, which likens this to finding a “needle in a haystack.”

The next day Sandra Greene, who was at the corporate party, called the entertainment facility about a diamond she had lost there. She was told that they had found the stone.

Greene was so elated to have her diamond back she made a special trip back to Stars and Strikes to personally thank Mayker, give him a big hug and present him with a cash reward for his honesty. Stars and Strikes is also rewarding him.

“I only did what anybody would do," said Mayker. "I am glad I was able to find it for her."

Jack Canouse, a co-owner of Stars and Strikes, said that in this economy it's refreshing to find someone who puts others ahead of himself.

"I am really proud that Rick had the integrity to do the right thing,” Canouse said. "If it’s true, 'What goes around comes around,' then Rick has a lot of good coming to him this year."
