Traffic Flowing on Buford Dam Road Again

The section from Sanders Road to Marketplace Boulevard opened back up to traffic Monday morning.

Buford Dam Road from Sanders Road to Marketplace Boulevard reopened Monday morning, though a few days past the original date of Saturday, June 4.

One reason...

"The extreme heat with the striping," said Cumming City Administrator Gerald Blackburn. "On Monday we had more people on the site to assist people if there were any problems with the new directions. It went real smooth this morning (Monday, June 6) we have not had any problems with it."

In March crews began replacing a culvert where Buford Dam Road crosses Market Place Boulevard. The Buford Dam Road Project, as it is called by the City of Cumming, also includes widening parts of the roadway, up to four lanes, and installing sidewalks.

The more than $3.8 million project also includes construction along the section of Buford Dam Road from Highway 9/20, over Georgia 400, and down to Marketplace Boulevard, but that area remains open to traffic.

The entire project is expected to be completed by September 30, 2011.
