Republican Candidate for Forsyth Solicitor-General Issues Statement on Campaign Contributions

Susan Zereini says she finds "it very troubling that (Donna Gopaul) would actually boast about receiving more than $21,000 considering the way her supporters were misled."

The Susan Zereini for Forsyth County Solicitor-General campaign today issued the following statement:

"In response to the press release issued by my opponent yesterday relating to her campaign contributions, I find it very troubling that she would actually boast about receiving more than $21,000 considering the way her supporters were misled.

"Ms. Gopaul is not the Republican she pretends to be. She worked for radical, left wing Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, donated money to her campaign and was registered to vote in the Democrat presidential primary as recently as 2012. In fact, she only joined the Republican Party last summer when she realized that in order to keep her $113,000-a-year job, she would have to campaign as a Republican. 

"After that information was made public in December, Ms. Gopaul has received only one small donation, her campaign manager resigned and Repubicans ran away from her faster than the Democrats from Obamacare.

"Repubican state senators Jack Murphy and Steve Gooch and Republican state representatives Mike Dudgeon, Geoff Duncan and Kevin Tanner have withdrawn their support and ordered her to remove their names from her website and campaign literature.

"Now, she's been called on the carpet by the Forsyth County Committee to explain her Republican credentials, or lack therof, at a called meeting this month."
