Battle Against Hunger

Master Mende, a sixth degree black belt, will host the inaugural 2012 “Battle against Hunger” American Taekwondo Association (ATA) Regional Tournament. ATA schools from all over the Southeast and students of all ages and skill levels will be executing martial arts performances. There will also be Combat Weapons Division performances and all levels of sparing including black belts.  A portion of the proceeds from the event will help support Children’s Restoration Network’s Thanksgiving Food Drive. We are encouraging attendees to bring non-perishable food donations to support the food drive and they will be entered into a raffle.

Many of the shelters and group homes we work with have very limited budgets and do not have the funds needed to provide a bountiful meal on Thanksgiving Day. In addition to the Thanksgiving meal, we also want to stock their food pantries with enough food to last through the holiday season. According to the National Center on Family Homelessness, homeless children go hungry at twice the rate of other children with 57% of homeless kids spending at least one day every month without proper food. Children that continually go hungry often have poor health, behavioral and emotional problems, and difficulties in socializing with peers. Our goal is to provide 200+ turkeys with all the trimmings for children living in shelters and group homes and fill their pantries for the Holidays!
