Scorching acoustic guitars, blazing banjos and the melodic friction of bows on strings should make for a warm melodic glow in the midst of the Appalachian winter in this new two-day festival that will benefit both the Soque River Watershed Association and the Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper.

"We’re glad to be able to showcase some of the best bluegrass artists from across the region and the nation, right here in Habersham County, and in the process, support and raise awareness to keep these rivers, these most valuable resources, clean and healthy," says Bob Fortin, co-producer of the event.

The festival will reach a feverish crescendo Saturday night with internationally acclaimed guitar virtuoso Larry Keel taking the stage around 8 p.m., followed by the must-be-seen-to-be-believed sensory spectacle that is the Snake Oil Medicine Show. Friday night’s headliner is The Mosier Brothers Band, featuring the Rev. Jeff Mosier on banjo and Johnny Mosier on guitar.

"This is a great collection of talent under one roof," Fortin says. "As a fan – and I am a fan, first and foremost – I can’t wait."

The deep and heavy lineup of artists also includes local favorite and rising national stars BlueBilly Grit, a six-piece band from Northeast Georgia (they took first place in the vaunted Telluride Bluegrass Band Competition in 2012), and the Packway Handle Band out of Athens, Telluride finalists 10 years ago and one of the busiest touring bands in the country, as well as festival circuit favorites Chattahoochee Chain Gang and Stop Drop & Roll.

"We want to bring world class musicians to Northeast Georgia, and provide some fun for the whole family at affordable prices," says Paul Rampulla, festival co-producer. "Our goal is to enrich the soul through bluegrass."Doors will open at 5 p.m. and the music starts at 6. Tickets are $30 in advance and may be purchased at the Nacoochee Village Tavern & Pizzeria and the Grant Street Music Room, or you can visit
