Why Are International Students Afraid of Americans?

It might surprise you to learn that being afraid of communicating in English is not the number one fear for international students.  Most students who come to the US during their tender high school years have already studied English for most of their lives.  Many of these students are surprisingly proficient and unafraid to speak English.  Though, some do need a little added sense of security and acceptance.

The most common fear is not communication -- it's safety.  Since world media broadcasts all of our gun violence woes, more and more international families have a tainted picture of the average American family.  Speaking just about families from Asia-- most think that all American families own and use guns.  That might sound a bit off the mark, but nonetheless, foreigners perceive us as gun-totin' criminals.

What better way to help change this perception than to provide a safe, secure, and tolerant atmosphere for a young and impressionable international student?

It takes a family experience to show the rest of the world what Americans are really made of-- compassion, unity, love.  If this is something you feel called to do, please contact a coordinator at Everyday Interaction.  We will help you through the three-step application process, and choose a child that fits your family's dynamic.
