Donate To Cops-N-Kids Event To Help Needy Children

For every $125 donation, the Sergeant D. P. Land Memorial Lodge No. 82 of the Fraternal Order of Police can sponsor another child.

The Sergeant D. P. Land Memorial Lodge No. 82 of the Fraternal Order of Police will be holding its annual Cops-N-Kids event Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the Cumming Walmart on Market Place Boulevard. The event helps to give area needy children a Christmas.

According to Chris Shelton, president of the lodge, 107 children were sponsored last year.

“We are hoping to be able to sponsor even more this year,” Shelton said in a press release.

The children are selected through the school system with help from school counselors. They and their parents come to the event location and shop with a law enforcement officer or representative.

“You would think in shopping with these children that they would be picking out toys. Many times we see the children selecting clothes, shoes and sometimes food,” Shelton said.

“We are still accepting donations from anyone who would like to help give a child a Christmas,” Shelton added. “For every $125 we collect, we will be able to sponsor another child.”

Donations can be sent to the Sgt. D.P. Land Memorial Lodge No. 82, Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) at P.O. Box 1374, Cumming, GA 30028.
