GDOT Halts Lane Closures for Labor Day Holiday

All scheduled and ongoing construction-related lane closures in northeast Georgia will be suspended for the long weekend.

Good travel news for those looking to hit the road during the upcoming Labor Day holiday:

The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced all scheduled and ongoing construction and maintenance lane closures in northeast Georgia, including Cumming and Forsyth County, will be suspended for the long weekend, beginning at noon on Friday, Aug. 30, and extending to 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3, according to the press release.

“No lane closures will be scheduled over the holiday weekend. The only exception would be for emergency maintenance work in the case of traffic accidents, and other unpredictable types of transportation incidents. We understand that a lot of people are hitting the road for the Labor Day holiday and we would like to make it a little easier,” said Bayne Smith, district engineer serving northeast Georgia, in the release.
