Will Rain Dampen the Cumming Fireworks Show, Fourth Of July Parade?

Mother Nature is set to rain on our parade and fireworks show.

Update: 7-3-13, 8:19 a.m.

The City of Cumming is on schedule to throw its annual Third and Fourth of July Celebrations despite what Mother Nature may have in store for us.

Fireworks Show

The first event at the Cumming Fairgrounds is scheduled to begin tonight at 6 with various vendors offering food and drink, live music at 7:30 p.m. and everybody's favorite, fireworks at 9:30 p.m. There is no admission or parking fee for the July 3rd celebration, but parking spaces are limited.

But there's that chance of rain in the forecast for the Cumming area for today, tonight and on the 4th of July, according to the National Weather Service.

Tracy Helms, events coordinator with the Cumming Fairgrounds, said if it's pouring down rain, it's up to the vendors to stay or pack up and go. And as far as the fireworks go...

"If we can light them, then we'll shoot them," Helms said.

The only forces of nature that will stop the fireworks show from happening is a tornado or high winds, said a spokesperson for Pyrotechnico, the company that will light up the sky with fireworks.

If rain extinguishes the fireworks, the show will not be rescheduled due to the other commitments of Pyrotechnico.

Steam Engine Parade

But there's always the annual Steam Engine Parade on the morning of July 4th.

Cindy Hansard, the president of the Forsyth County Steam Engine Association, told Cumming Patch that despite the rain they will still have a parade.

"I have no other option," she said. "The steam engines will run -- they have to."

As far as the rest of the parade participants go, there are about 60 floats in all, that decision will be up to the group or individual signed up to be in the parade, according to Hansard.

The parade, celebrating it's 56th year, begins at 10 a.m. and is scheduled to include steam engines, antique tractors, antique cars and many other floats decorated in the spirit of the holiday.

The parade will start at the intersection of Tribble Gap and Woodland Drive and can be seen coming down Tribble Gap from Forsyth Central High School ending at the fairgrounds, according to the City of Cumming.
