Cartier Indian Tiara

Happy Tiara Tuesday!  This week we bring you the glistening Cartier Indian Tiara, which is a spectacle to behold, encrusted with diamonds, sapphires, and pearls! The Cartier Indian Tiara gets its name because it was made by Cartier for Marie Louise, Queen Victoria's granddaughter, and although not actually Indian, uses Indian motifs within the gorgeous design.

Marie Louise had a sort of unfortunate marriage with Prince Aribert of Anhalt, and they just didn't seem to be working out.  Then, when she was on an official visit to Canada, Prince Aribert's dad, the Duke of Anhalt, decided to annul the marriage.  Marie Louise lost her titles but retained a vast jewel collection, and it is thought that she commissioned this tiara after the marriage was annulled in the early 1900s.  After her death the tiara passed from Marie Louise to her godson, Prince Richard of Gloucester, and is now worn by his wife Birgitte.

Birgitte pulls this tiara off magnificently, and it's wonderful to see this tiara making appearances at state banquets and some of her visits to the United Kingdom.  She has the perfect tiara hair for this tiara too!

Thanks for reading and have a great Tiara Tuesday!
