Princess Fatemeh's Tiara

Hey everyone!  Happy Tiara Tuesday!  Today's tiara hails from Iran, and is the fabulous Princess Fatemeh Tiara, featuring stunning emeralds around a gorgeous pink spinel.

Princess Fatemeh wore this tiara on many occasions, which is why it was named for her.  It was originally commissioned sometime during the Qajar Dynasty (1779-1925 A.D.).  Princess Fatemeh was born just after the beginning of the Pahlavi Dynasty (1925-1979 A.D.), which started with her father.

Princess Fatemeh was born on Oct 30th, 1928 and was the half sister to the late Shah of Iran.  She was the youngest child of Reza Shah and his fourth wife.  Reza was part of a coup in 1921 that led to his rise to power as Shah of Persia in 1925.  In 1935 Persia changed its name to Iran, and Reza Shah was the Shah of Iran until 1941, when he was succeeded by his son, Mohammad Reza Shah.

Princess Fatemeh died at 58 years old in London in 1987, where she'd been living in recent years.  This tiara was part of the Iranian Imperial Jewels, which became property of the State of Iran after the 1979 revolution.  The jewels are now owned by the National Treasury of Iran, and you can be seen at the Museum of The Treasury of National Iranian Jewels.
