Teck Turquoise Tiara

Happy Tiara Tuesday everyone!  This week we’re bringing you a stunner from the Duchess of Gloucester, the Teck Turquoise Tiara!  This tiara is so named because it originally comes from the Princess Mary Adelaide, Duchess of Teck, and mother of Queen Mary.

What a stunner! This tiara was made as part of a turquoise parure around 1850 and features gorgeous Rococo-inspired scrolls and motifs surrounding the stunning turquoise sunburst!  It was a wedding gift from Mary, Duchess of Teck, to her daughter, the future Queen Mary, who, as is her reputation, modified it to suit her taste in 1912.  Prior to modification it was a bit taller with another turquoise set on top, coming more to a point.  This tiara has just the right amount of turquoise, showing off that gorgeous color without overwhelming the wearer.

It was presented as a wedding gift to Princess Alice of Gloucester, and has remained with the Gloucester family since.  It is privately owned, as opposed to being part of the family jewels, and will therefore be passed on by the current owner, Brigitte, Duchess of Gloucester, who received it as a wedding present from her mother-in-law, Alice.
