The Persian Turquoise Tiara
Happy Tiara Tuesday! This week we bring you another stunning turquoise tiara-- the Persian Turquoise Tiara! It is a deeply symbolic representation of love; Turquoise stands for love and within the tiara there are also lovers’ knots, the lamps of love, and triumphal laurel. Made in 1900 by Garrard, this tiara has also been known as the Triumph of Love Tiara.
This tiara is stunningly constructed of platinum and gold, with hundreds of diamonds and the vibrant turquoise cabochons. It originally had another bar of diamonds across the top, closing the space and giving it a Kokoshnik appearance. In 1923 it was gifted to Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon on her wedding day to the Duke of York, from her father-in-law, King George V, and Queen Mary. It was later modified by the Duchess of York to the more open form it is today, and was then passed down to Princess Margaret for her 21st birthday.
Today it is unknown where the tiara lives-- several of the other turquoise jewels in the turquoise parure were auctioned off, but the tiara's whereabouts are still a mystery. Hopefully we'll see it at a royal event and learn what has become of this stunning tiara! Thanks, as always, for reading and have a fantastic Tiara Tuesday!
