The Rosenborg Kokoshnik Tiara
Happy Tiara Tuesday! This week we bring you an adorable, sweet tiara, the Rosenborg Kokoshnik Tiara! The tiara features a garland motif with ribbons and flowers flowing around it, made of garnets, diamonds, and pearls set in platinum and gold! The top row of diamonds is also a detachable diamond necklace.
This tiara was originally made in the 1930s by Dragsted for Prince Viggio’s wife, Eleanor. It has remained with the Rosenborg family, being passed down from Eleanor to her sister-in-law, Princess Margaretha, who passed it to her son, Count Flemming of Rosenborg. Count Flemming’s wife, Ruth, wore the tiara often, but after her death in 2010 the tiara's fate was unsure. In 2012, the tiara went up for auction at Bukowskis, an auction house in Stockholm, with an estimated value of $200,000. However, there were no buyers, so it went back into the family collection.
This is such a sweet tiara, and the beautiful deep, red garnets make it different from all the other red tiaras, which typically have rubies. It's beautiful and colorful with the different colored pearls scattered about the diamond vines, and hopefully, if it goes to auction again, it will find a loving home! Thanks for reading and happy Tiara Tuesday!
