The Württemberg Pink Topaz Tiara

Happy Tiara Tuesday!  This week we are bringing you a fabulous pink topaz tiara from Württemberg!  It’s called the Württemberg Pink Topaz Tiara, and it’s quite the spectacle!

This tiara was originally worn by Princess Marie of Waldeck and Pyrmont, who married Crown Prince Wilhelm of Württemberg, the future king of Württemberg, in 1877.  It is part of an extravagant parure, including the tiara, two bracelets, a pair of earrings, and a brooch.  The large pink topaz were sourced from Russia.

Princess Marie of Waldeck and Pyrmont had two younger sisters who also married well, and a younger brother Friedrich, who was the last reigning prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont.  Princess Marie was 19 when she married her husband, and successfully had two children before 1882.

Unfortunately, Marie met an early end in 1882 during childbirth, only five years after her marriage and at the age of 24.  The tiara was not part of the royal family's collection, and eventually was sold into the hands of private collectors.  It is currently owned by Mr. Thomas Färber of Geneva, and his collection travels to exhibits worldwide.

Thanks for reading and have a great Tiara Tuesday!
