Children's Center for Hope & Healing Gala Saturday

The funds raised at the event will help the hundreds of abused children the agency serves each year.

The Children's Center for Hope & Healing is hosting its 5th annual gala on Saturday, Aug. 25 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., at the Smithgall Arts Center located at 331 Spring Street in nearby Gainesville.

The funds raised at the event will help the hundreds of abused children the agency serves each year. Since 1984, the agency has provided free therapeutic services for children who are the survivors of sexual abuse. Without treatment, children who have been sexually abused are at higher risk for alcohol or drug problems, teen pregnancy, academic failure, eating disorders, depression, health problems, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), or suicide.

Because so few people in society talk about sexual abuse, most do not realize how common it is: one in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused before their 18 birthday, according to the Children's Center for Hope & Healing. In the U.S. it is estimated that there are 39 million adult survivors of sexual abuse.
