Find Fun in the Fall Season!

The summer is over but that doesn't mean travel plans are put on hold. Find fun in the fall with these great tips!

Summer is over and the kids are back in school. The beach vacation is but a distant memory and summer clothes are being put away. But don’t fret! Great weather, colorful leaves, and family-oriented festivals galore make the fall season just as much fun! In fact, fall is the perfect time for those short family getaways.

This is also the time of year when the leaves are changing and the air is getting crisp. It is football season. Apples are ripe and pumpkins are ready for picking too.

This is my favorite time of year!

Here are a few ideas for the season:

Have fun at a fall festival. The fall is famous for apples and harvest festivals. Take a day and go apple picking or try some desserts at a local festival. The local newspaper and Web sites will list the upcoming events or a simple Google search will return a variety of ideas for your state or region. Make a weekend of it and visit a nearby town for their harvest festival!

Explore state and national parks. Before the winter weather hits, the state and national parks are the perfect place to explore and have a picnic. Many offer lodges and camp sites. There is nothing like taking a great hike on a cool fall day to get the blood pumping! For more information on national parks simply visit www.nps.gov.

Check out the ski resorts early. Most ski towns are four-season destinations so there are attractions open and activities year-round. In the fall, however, you don’t have to fight crowds or pay top dollar in order to do the things your family likes such as hiking, biking, horseback riding, rafting, golf, and enjoying the autumn foliage.

Enjoy upcoming holidays. With this season comes Halloween and Thanksgiving before winter sets in and is here before you know it. Whether you take a hay ride with the family at your favorite pumpkin patch or sip apple cider at a bonfire while toasting marshmallows, this is the season to explore the outdoors.   Make your favorite Halloween costumes from scratch. Travel local or travel far and wide.

Whatever you choose, enjoy this season as the weather finally cools and winter nips at your heels. Spend time with the ones you love and be thankful for each day you have together. Enjoy the season!
