Health Insurance Update

Now that the health insurance enrollment deadline of December 23, 2013 is behind us (for a January 1, 2014 effective date) here are some tips as we move into the New Year:

1.  Confirm your enrollment in any health insurance program!  This includes off & on-exchange as well as renewals for your 2013 policy.  Many in the Individual market did not act on their renewal notices and may be without coverage.  Also, it is important to confirm that your www.healthcare.gov enrollment was properly transmitted to the carrier you selected.

2.  If you are not insured, it’s not too late:  If you did not enroll in time for January coverage, you still can obtain coverage both on & off exchange.  You must apply by January 15, 2014 to obtain a February 1, 2014 effective date.  Remember, you must apply by March 31, 2014 to obtain coverage this year (except for special circumstances).

3.  Premium Cost Reduction:  Remember, you must apply in the Federal Marketplace to obtain help paying your insurance premium if you are eligible.  Only carriers in the Federal Marketplace offer plans that qualify.

4.  Contact your Agent to get help:  Qualified Health Insurance Plans compliant with the new law are available through March 31, 2014 both on and off exchange. The plan designs for 2014 are different including doctor networks, deductibles, and benefits.  Premium cost is no different whether you use an agent or go it alone.   Should you qualify for premium cost reduction, agents are available that are certified to help with www.healthcare.gov.
