Join Forsyth Community As We "Pay It Forward"

Join hundreds of your neighbors on Saturday, March 23, as we gather at Cumming First United Methodist Church and make a REAL difference in our community!

Pay it forward.

It is a great slogan and interesting concept but like all such ideas, unless acted upon, they simply waste away in a folder or get posted up on someone’s Facebook page.   Sometimes an idea comes to life and when it does, lives are changed, strangers become neighbors and hope springs eternal.

Cumming First United Methodist Church (that church where you get the best pumpkins every October) has been “Paying It Forward” for 12 years now. The annual One Great Day of Service each March made the idea of paying it forward a reality long before there were hashtags for people to search. Literally hundreds of people have been showing up and giving their time, sweat and hearts to others in Cumming, Forsyth County and beyond. This year is shaping up to be no exception!

Paying it forward means doing something before someone even asks for help. You can be part of the event! One Great Day of Service will be supporting the American Red Cross through their blood drive. Jesse’s House, Family Haven and Pier Foundation get paid a visit from neighbors, like you, lending a hand. UMCOR, ranked consistently at the top of all disaster relief organizations for their stewardship of resources, is supported by donations of supplies for health kits, which have gone all over the world. In a similar fashion, we help each year to fulfill the wishes of our troops with donations that are shipped across the globe.

This year is the 6th Annual Community-wide Food Drive. In partnership with scouting programs throughout our area, you’ll have the opportunity to donate food that will feed the hungry right here in Forsyth County at local grocery stores throughout the day. We’ll be joining again with the Feinstein $1 Million Challenge.  Philanthropist Alan Feinstein gives $1 million to anti-hunger agencies. The more we pay it forward, the more our community benefits from his support.

Check-in is in the Family Life Center at Cumming First United Methodist Church this Saturday morning, March 23, from 7:45-8:30 a.m. We will have a brief communion service at 8:30 a.m. so that we can then spread out to work sites throughout the area by 9 a.m.

See you on Saturday when we get to Pay It Forward!
