IN BUSINESS, MEDAL LIKE AN OLYMPIAN

During the excitement of the Olympic Games, we don’t often watch our favorite athletes and think about how their pursuit of greatness may parallel those succeeding in the business world; however, the push for victory and medals is virtually one-in-the-same.

Being the best, whether you’re a company or a downhill skier, requires an unbelievable work ethic.  It’s not always about having the highest level of training or even the most money.  It’s about holding onto that certain edge, which pushes you to stay in the competition longer – to go all-in because you know that it will be worth it in the end.

1) Attitude: Positivity creates opportunity.  Without the right attitude, persevering through an 80-hour work week or picking yourself up after a brutal fall will seem insurmountable.

2) Coaching: No one who has achieved greatness has gotten there alone.  Behind every amazing Olympian and every industry titan, is a coach or a mentor who helped light the way.

3) Support: While it may take a village to raise a child, it takes a city to create a champion.  When attempting to reach any large goal, a great support system is essential.

4) Gratitude: In the end, it takes a lot to make the podium.  Whether in the Olympics or in business, success comes through those who understand that their greatest strengths often lie within those who have given their support.

As the 2014 Sochi Olympics come to a close, why not take the time to think about your passion – your work – and give the gift of thanks to those who have helped bolster your dreams.
